Aspen Colorado started out as a silver mining town in 1879. Today Aspen is the ski town of the rich and famous in the winter. But , in the summer, the rest of us can enjoy the beauty of the areas in and around Aspen. There’s camping and reasonable priced lodging at the many ski condos around Aspen and Snowmass Village. The photos in this gallery were shot around the back streets of Aspen with beautiful Victorian homes, cottages and gardens. So, don’t miss Aspen in the summer.

The Ghost Towns of Vicksburg & Winfield are located 16 miles north of Buena Vista on Hwy 24. Make a left on County Road 390. Travel west 8 miles to Vicksburg & Winfield at 12 miles (from the turnoff). Both towns are located in beautiful Clear Creek Canyon. There is a river with beaver ponds and a trailhead for Mt Oxford. There are several campgrounds along with a number dispersed campsites along the road. The first photo in this gallery is from the Climax Mine. The next 4 photos are located north of County Road 390. The rest where shot at Vicksburg & Winfield, Colorado. These ghost towns sprung up from the mining in the area during the 1880s.
